About Class 6

What Changes for a Child in Class 6

Until Class 5 a child usually has one class teacher. That teacher sees the child all day and notices when a lesson was not understood. From Class 6 there is a different teacher for every subject. Each one sees the child for one period. A child can fall behind for a full term before anybody notices.

So we keep our Class 6 batches small. The same teachers stay with the batch all year. We check written work every week. This way a problem from August is found in August, before the school exam. The Class 6 syllabus is light. We use the time to build good study habits.

The same teachers all yearThe same teachers stay with your child’s batch from April to March. A teacher who saw a difficulty in September still remembers it in December.
Reading practice every weekEvery week includes an unseen passage. Children learn to read a question carefully before they answer. This helps in every subject.
Extra time for fractionsFractions, decimals and the number line get more class time than the syllabus gives them. Later maths chapters need all three.
Homework that gets checkedWe collect the homework and mark it. A wrong method is corrected in the same week, before it becomes a habit.

The first month

What we do in the first four weeks

In the first four weeks we find out how your child reads, counts and studies. We plan the rest of the year from that.

01

A baseline test

This test carries no marks, and the result is never read out to the batch. It shows us how your child reads and how strong the Class 5 number work is.

02

A batch that matches your child’s pace

We place children by pace. The school they come from does not matter. A child who needs the number line again sits with others who need the same.

03

Two weeks on routine

Children learn to pack the bag, submit homework and ask doubts aloud. We spend two full weeks on this and treat it as part of the syllabus.

04

The first parent call

After four weeks we call you and tell you what we have seen. This is well before the first school exam.

Aims for the year

What We Work Towards in Class 6

  • Your child reads the full question and answers what was asked
  • Strong number work: fractions, decimals and place value
  • Homework done every day, because it is checked every day
  • A written record of each weak topic, revised until it is clear
  • Parents who know by October how their child is doing
  • A child who still likes school at the end of the year

Advice

Three things we tell Class 6 parents

The Class 6 report card

Class 6 marks alone tell you little. Watch if your child can sit and study without being reminded. If that habit is weak, there is still plenty of time to build it.

Fractions

Many Class 9 students who find Maths hard are weak in fractions. Fractions are a Class 6 chapter. It takes much less time to fix them now than in Class 9.

Homework

We do not give eleven-year-olds three hours of homework. One short piece of homework, done properly and marked by the teacher, teaches more than a long one that is copied.

Class 6 questions

Questions Parents Ask About Class 6

Which is the best coaching in Bettiah for CBSE Class 6?

No institute can prove it is the best, so compare things you can check. Ask how many students sit in one batch. Ask if there is a written test every week, and if the copies are checked. Ask if you can sit in a class before you pay. Knox Learning Academy teaches CBSE Class 6 in English medium at Signature Tower, Supriya Road, Bettiah. Batches are small, and there is a short written test every Saturday. You can check all of this in a free demo class. Call 92881 10034.

Is Class 6 too early to start coaching?

It is too early for exam pressure, and we do not give any. Class 6 is a good time to build habits. A child now has a different teacher for every subject, and some children begin to fall behind. We use the year for reading, number work and finishing homework. The syllabus itself is light.

Where is Knox Learning Academy located?

We are in Bettiah, West Champaran, Bihar. Students come to our classes from Bettiah, Narkatiaganj, Bagaha, Ramnagar, Chanpatia and nearby parts of West Champaran. Call 92881 10034 for directions or to book a campus visit.

Is there a scholarship or fee concession available?

Yes. Any applicant can sit our scholarship test. It gives fee waivers on merit. We also give concessions to siblings and to students from economically weaker families. Talk to the admissions desk about your case.

Do you teach the other classes too, from Class 6 to Class 12?

Yes. Knox teaches CBSE Class 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 in English medium. In Class 11 and 12 there are two programmes: CBSE in English medium, and Bihar Board I.Sc. in Hindi medium and English medium. A student can stay at the same institute from Class 6 to Class 12.

Which board and medium do the Class 6 batches follow?

Our Class 6 batches follow the CBSE syllabus (NCERT books) and are taught in English.

Do you teach in Hindi or English?

It depends on the programme. Class 6 to 10 and CBSE Class 11 and 12 are taught in English. Bihar Board I.Sc. (Class 11 and 12) has a Hindi medium batch and an English medium batch. The entrance and government-exam batches run as the page for each one says. You get study material in the medium you enrol in.

Can I attend a demo class before enrolling?

Yes. You can book a free demo class for any programme. You sit in a normal class with the batch you would join. Call 92881 10034 to reserve a seat.
