Maths Coaching in Bettiah
We start with a short diagnostic test to find the earlier ideas a student has missed. We teach those again, then set a practice paper every day.

Why maths goes wrong
How One Missed Idea Affects Later Classes
In maths, each chapter depends on earlier ones. A child unsure of fractions in Class 6 struggles with algebra in Class 8. The same child then finds quadratic equations hard in Class 10. By then it looks as if the whole subject is the problem.
So every student starts with a short diagnostic test. It shows which earlier idea is missing. We teach that idea again first, then move forward. After that the work is steady: a concept taught at the board, practice the same day, and a written test every week.
What we teach
Maths, class by class
Class 6 to 10 follows the NCERT books for CBSE. In Class 11 and 12 we teach CBSE and Bihar Board I.Sc. The two boards set their papers differently, so each gets its own practice papers.
Class 6 – 8: Foundation
- Numbers, place value, factors, multiples, HCF and LCM
- Fractions, decimals, integers and rational numbers
- Ratio, percentage, profit and loss, and interest
- First algebra: expressions, simple equations, exponents
Class 9 – 10: Board years
- Number systems, polynomials and linear equations in two variables
- Quadratic equations and arithmetic progressions
- Coordinate geometry, triangles and circles
- Trigonometry and its applications, heights and distances
Class 11 – 12: Board + JEE
- Sets, relations, functions and inverse trigonometric functions
- Sequences, series, permutations, combinations, binomial theorem
- Straight lines, conic sections and three-dimensional geometry
- Limits, continuity, differentiation and integration
Common problems
Common problems in maths tuition, and what we do
Each line on the left is a common problem. The line beside it is what happens in a Knox maths class.
Common problem
- Worked examples are copied from the board and memorised
- Practice uses the same sums as the textbook
- Homework is set but rarely checked line by line
- Weak chapters show up only in the school exam
- Parents hear about problems at the end of the year
What we do at Knox
- The idea behind each method is taught before the method
- Daily practice papers have new sums, tagged by chapter
- Written work is marked, with the wrong step circled
- A written test every week covers that week’s chapters
- A monthly report names the chapters to revisit
The first month
What happens in the first month of a maths batch
In the first month we find out where your child stands in maths. Then we begin the syllabus.
A short diagnostic test
It carries no marks. It checks the earlier ideas this class depends on, such as fractions before algebra.
Earlier gaps taught again
Any idea missing from an earlier class is taught again in small steps. New chapters come after that.
Daily practice begins
A practice paper is set every day on what was taught. Mistakes are marked, so the student can correct them early.
The first parent report
Within the month you hear what we found. The report says which chapters are strong and which need more time.

Aims for the year
What a Year of Maths at Knox Works Towards
- Gaps from earlier classes found and taught again
- Methods understood, so a changed question can still be solved
- Working shown neatly, step by step, as board examiners mark it
- Speed built through daily practice across the year
- A written record of weak chapters, revisited until they are clear
- For Class 11 – 12, maths practised up to JEE-level questions
Advice
Three things we tell parents about maths
Weak in maths
When a child is called weak in maths, the cause is often one idea missed in an earlier class. Later chapters depend on it. Our diagnostic test looks for that idea before we teach anything new.
Daily practice
Maths is learnt by solving sums with a pen. Watching a teacher solve them is only the first step. So there is a practice paper every day, and it is marked.
Medium
Class 6 to 10 and CBSE Class 11 and 12 are taught in English. Bihar Board I.Sc. has Hindi and English medium batches. The formulas are the same in both.
FAQ
Questions Parents Ask About Maths Coaching
Which is the best maths coaching in Bettiah?
Each family should decide that for itself. Four things are worth checking at any institute you visit. Is there a written maths test every week? Is homework marked? Can you sit in a free demo class? Will they give you your child’s weak chapters in writing? At Knox the answer to all four is yes. Call 92881 10034 to book a demo.
Is Bihar Board maths different from CBSE maths?
The ideas are the same. The papers are set differently. We teach Bihar Board maths in Class 11 and 12 (I.Sc.). In the Bihar Board Intermediate paper, about half the theory marks come from objective questions answered on an OMR sheet. So I.Sc. and CBSE students get their own practice papers and past papers. Class 6 to 10 maths follows CBSE.
Do you teach maths for JEE?
Yes. In Class 11 and 12, maths is taught for the board and for JEE together. Students get JEE-level problem sets along with the board syllabus. See our IIT JEE page for the full programme.
Where is Knox Learning Academy located?
We are in Bettiah, West Champaran, Bihar. Students come to our classes from Bettiah, Narkatiaganj, Bagaha, Ramnagar, Chanpatia and nearby parts of West Champaran. Call 92881 10034 for directions or to book a campus visit.
Is there a scholarship or fee concession available?
Yes. Any applicant can sit our scholarship test. It gives fee waivers on merit. We also give concessions to siblings and to students from economically weaker families. Talk to the admissions desk about your case.
Do you teach maths in Hindi medium?
Hindi medium is offered in Bihar Board I.Sc. (Class 11 and 12), which has Hindi and English medium batches. There, notes and practice papers come in the medium you choose. Class 6 to 10 and CBSE Class 11 and 12 maths are taught in English.
How do you prepare Class 10 students for the board maths paper?
The syllabus is finished early. After that, students work on CBSE past papers, timed practice, and writing each step for full marks. Every answer sheet is checked line by line. Marks lost to missing working are found and corrected before the board exam.
Can my child join only for maths?
Please call the admissions desk on 92881 10034 to discuss this. They can tell you which batches are open for your child’s class and board.
Do you teach in Hindi or English?
It depends on the programme. Class 6 to 10 and CBSE Class 11 and 12 are taught in English. Bihar Board I.Sc. (Class 11 and 12) has a Hindi medium batch and an English medium batch. The entrance and government-exam batches run as the page for each one says. You get study material in the medium you enrol in.
Can I attend a demo class before enrolling?
Yes. You can book a free demo class for any programme. You sit in a normal class with the batch you would join. Call 92881 10034 to reserve a seat.
