About Class 7

Why Class 7 Needs Steady Work

Class 6 gets attention because the child has moved to middle school. Class 9 and 10 get attention because a board exam is near. Class 7 has no such reason, so many students study less this year.

But Class 7 has important chapters. In Maths, letters start to stand for numbers. A student who does not understand this will find Class 9 factorisation hard. In Science, students learn the reasons behind heat, acids and bases, life processes, and motion and time. Later classes do not teach these again from the start. They expect the student to know them.

Main topics

Five things we work on in Class 7

These five do not show clearly on a Class 7 report card. They matter a lot in Class 9.

x

Algebra begins

In algebraic expressions and simple equations, a letter stands for a number. Many students only memorise the steps, and then cannot factorise two years later. We teach an equation as a balance with two equal sides. We go slowly and give more practice than the chapter has.

Science asks for reasons

Class 7 Science covers heat, acids and bases, life processes, and motion and time. Students now have to give the reason for what they see.

Fractions, decimals and integers

Students add, subtract, multiply and divide with all three. Percentage, ratio and interest in later classes use this arithmetic. So do competitive exams.

Longer written answers

History and civics answers get longer in Class 7. We teach one structure: the point, the reason, then an example. Students practise it before the board years.

Regular revision

There is a weekly test on that week’s lessons. There is also a monthly test on everything taught so far. The monthly test makes students go back to old chapters.

Syllabus

What We Teach in Class 7

We follow the CBSE syllabus. CBSE schools now use the new NCERT books for Class 7, and we teach from those books. Classes are in English medium.

Science

  • Acids, bases and neutral substances; physical and chemical changes
  • Electric circuits, metals and non-metals
  • Heat transfer, and measurement of time and motion
  • Life processes in plants and animals; adolescence

Mathematics

  • Large numbers, integers, fractions and decimals
  • Algebraic expressions and simple equations
  • Parallel and intersecting lines, triangles and congruence
  • Constructions, and reading data from graphs

Social Science

  • Geography: the land and weather of India, and India’s neighbours
  • History: early cities, the Maurya and Gupta empires, and later kingdoms
  • Civics: types of government and the Constitution of India
  • Economics: money, markets and banks

English & Hindi

  • Unseen passages, with questions where you must infer the answer
  • Grammar: tenses, voice, prepositions and clauses
  • Letter, notice and paragraph writing
  • Prescribed prose and poetry from the NCERT books

Common mistakes

Common Class 7 mistakes, and what we do

These mistakes are common in a year that has no board exam. The second list shows our routine.

Common mistakes

  • Studying seriously only when Class 9 begins
  • Memorising the steps of five worked sums in algebra
  • Reading Science only on the night before a unit test
  • Never opening a chapter again after it is finished
  • Looking only at the marks to judge progress

What we do at Knox

  • Teach Class 7 as the preparation for Class 9
  • Teach equations from the idea of a balance
  • Hold a written test every week, marked and returned
  • Hold a monthly test on everything covered so far
  • Send a monthly report that names the chapters to revise

Year plan

How the Class 7 year runs

We finish the syllabus by the end of January. February and March are kept for revision.

1
April – May

Baseline test and number work

We start with a test on Class 6 arithmetic, before any new chapter. Integers, fractions and decimals are taught again where needed. The later chapters depend on them.

2
June – September

Most of Science and Social Science

We teach most of Science and Social Science in these months. Weekly tests begin in June. The first monthly test on everything so far is at the end of July.

3
October – December

Algebra, geometry and longer answers

Algebraic expressions, simple equations, triangles and congruence get the most class time of the year. We also practise structured answers for history and civics.

4
January

Syllabus finished

All chapters are taught by the end of January. This leaves February and March for revision.

5
February – March

Revision and the annual exam

Each student revises the chapters that their own test record shows as weak. They write two full practice papers. Parents get a written summary of the year.

FAQ

Questions Parents Ask About Class 7

Which is the best coaching in Bettiah for CBSE Class 7?

No institute can prove it is the best, so compare things you can check. Ask how many students sit in one batch. Ask if there is a written test every week, and if the copies are checked. Ask if you can sit in a class before you pay. Knox Learning Academy teaches CBSE Class 7 in English medium at Signature Tower, Supriya Road, Bettiah. There is a written test every week. You can check all of this in a free demo class. Call 92881 10034.

Do you teach the other classes too, from Class 6 to Class 12?

Yes. Knox teaches CBSE Class 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 in English medium. In Class 11 and 12 there are two programmes: CBSE in English medium, and Bihar Board I.Sc. in Hindi medium and English medium. A student can stay at the same institute from Class 6 to Class 12.

Class 7 has no board exam. Why pay for coaching now?

Class 9 and Class 10 use what is taught in Class 7. Algebraic expressions, simple equations, heat and life processes are not taught again from the start. Many Class 9 students who are called weak in Maths have gaps from Class 7. Those gaps can be filled now in ordinary classes. In Class 9 the same work takes time away from the new syllabus.

My child already scores well in school. Will they be bored here?

They should not be. We set batches by pace. The school a child comes from does not decide the batch. Stronger students get harder problems in the same class. In Maths these are Olympiad-style reasoning questions. In Science they are questions that ask why. If a student is ahead of the batch, we tell you and move them.

Where is Knox Learning Academy located?

We are in Bettiah, West Champaran, Bihar. Students come to our classes from Bettiah, Narkatiaganj, Bagaha, Ramnagar, Chanpatia and nearby parts of West Champaran. Call 92881 10034 for directions or to book a campus visit.

Do you teach in Hindi or English?

It depends on the programme. Class 6 to 10 and CBSE Class 11 and 12 are taught in English. Bihar Board I.Sc. (Class 11 and 12) has a Hindi medium batch and an English medium batch. The entrance and government-exam batches run as the page for each one says. You get study material in the medium you enrol in.

Is there a scholarship or fee concession available?

Yes. Any applicant can sit our scholarship test. It gives fee waivers on merit. We also give concessions to siblings and to students from economically weaker families. Talk to the admissions desk about your case.

Can I attend a demo class before enrolling?

Yes. You can book a free demo class for any programme. You sit in a normal class with the batch you would join. Call 92881 10034 to reserve a seat.
