What an Agniveer Is
Under the Agnipath scheme, young people join the Army, Navy or Air Force as Agniveers for four years. At the end, up to 25% of each batch are kept on as regular soldiers. The rest leave with a lump sum.
For the Army, selection has two phases. Phase I is an online exam, called the CEE. Those who clear it are called to a recruitment rally for fitness, measurement and medical tests. The Navy and the Air Force issue their own notices.
We last checked this page in October 2026. Exam rules can change. Read the official notice on joinindianarmy.nic.in before you apply.
Exam pattern
Army Agniveer (General Duty) at a glance
| Stage | What it is |
|---|---|
| Online exam (CEE) | Objective questions on a computer. 50 questions in 1 hour, or 100 questions in 2 hours, by category |
| Subjects for General Duty | General knowledge, general science, maths and reasoning |
| Marking | Full marks for a right answer. No marks for a question you leave |
| Fitness test at the rally | 1.6 km run and pull-ups for marks. A 9 feet ditch and a zig-zag balance must be cleared |
| After the fitness test | Body measurement, medical exam and documents |
| Age | 17½ to 22 years in the 2026-27 notice |
| Education for General Duty | Class 10 pass with 45% in total and 33% in each subject |
| Other categories | Technical and Clerk need Class 12. Tradesman needs Class 10 or Class 8 |
In the 2026-27 notice, a 1.6 km run within 5 minutes 30 seconds earned the full 60 marks, and the slowest time allowed was 6 minutes 15 seconds. Ten pull-ups earned the full 40 marks, and six was the least counted. Earlier notices took away 25% of the marks for a wrong answer. The 2026-27 notice we read does not list this, so check the notice for your recruiting office.
