SSC GD recruits constables for the central armed forces. Merit comes from the computer exam. You must also pass the physical test.

A Class 10 Level Exam for the Central Forces
SSC GD Constable is held by the Staff Selection Commission. It fills constable posts in the BSF, CISF, CRPF, SSB, ITBP and SSF, and Rifleman posts in the Assam Rifles. A Class 10 pass can apply.
First there is a computer exam. Its marks decide the merit list. After that come a running test, a body measurement test and a medical exam. These must be passed, but they add no marks.

These figures are from the SSC GD 2026 notice. The notice for the 2027 exam was not out when we checked. Age was 18 to 23 years, with 3 more years for OBC and 5 for SC and ST. Height and running standards are lower for ST candidates and for some regions, such as Ladakh and the north-east.

Questions Candidates Ask About SSC GD
What is the SSC GD exam pattern?
In the 2026 pattern, the computer exam has 80 questions for 160 marks, in 60 minutes. There are four sections of 20 questions: reasoning, general knowledge, maths, and English or Hindi. A quarter of a mark is taken away for each wrong answer.
How fast must I run in the SSC GD physical test?
In the 2026 standards, men had to run 5 km in 24 minutes. Women had to run 1.6 km in eight and a half minutes. Candidates from Ladakh have a shorter run. Check the SSC notice.
Does the physical test add marks in SSC GD?
No. The running test, the measurement test and the medical exam must be passed, but they add no marks. The merit list is made from the computer exam.
Who can apply for SSC GD Constable?
A candidate who has passed Class 10. In the 2026 notice the age was 18 to 23 years, with relaxation for reserved categories. There are also height and medical standards.
Can I write SSC GD in Hindi?
Yes. The paper is offered in Hindi and English, and in 13 regional languages.
